Once again, Interviewer..

Yeah, from today I am going to start with a new role (responsibility) @ MS. Going to start interviewing for various teams from today.

I remember, interviewing lots of people for GAYTES (oh my god, there were so many of them.. because of our advertisement on!!)

I also remember, interviewing few people for our Delhi office at VARAHA in few of my last days there..

I think, in my career till now, I have taken more interviews than I have actually given.. (I dont know if this is good or bad Happy)

I type at 79.2 WPM speed!!

After full day of training, it was time to relax and I found something.. I did it just for fun...

There is a site where you can test your typing speed.. Its just 3 minute test which will tell you how you are doing.. If you are an average computer user, then it doesnt matter much, but if you are computer junkie like me, it helps a lot if you have fast typing skills.. (you can do a lot in short time!)

After completing the test, here is what I got..

You can also try giving a shot,

Kernel Weekend!!

I can say this weekend to be a dedicated "Kernel Weekend!".

I got an opportunity to attend 3 full-day training on "Windows Advanced Kernel Internal Architecture", One day has been over and I am in an undefined state.. Happy Trying to grasp lots and lots of things, Thinking how Intelligent BillG and his team was who designed this Kernel!! Its one of the most amazing piece of engineering/architecture, I have ever seen.. Believe me, its very very very very complex but still functioning like anything.. Mapping kernel concept with kernel debugging using commands is really very helpful and clears many of the fundamentals..! (at least I can analyze the reason now, why I got BSOD [blue screen of death] - because of some kernel fault.. Big Grin)

I imagine the life of those Escalation Engineer (our dada, in technology space and from experience point of view!!) whose day doesn't start without a kernel memory dump (especially Platform Team EEs @ Microsoft)!! The guy from whom I am taking training, is from San Francisco and a highly skilled guy.. Though he is just 30 years but he has got amazing experience in Windows Kernel and Device Driver space.. Windows architecture is like at his fingertips!! I wish, some day I could have that expertise! I dont know the future, but I am definitely going to start working towards it..

Still on the end of first day, 2 more days to go and lots and lots of things to learn.. So, more excited for the experience ahead..

Anyways, "Micchami Dukkadam" (yesterday was 'samvatsari', our Jain people's biggest festival when we apologize to people around for mistakes [known/unknown] in last year.. and to convey that feeling, we say Micchami Dukkadam.. Happy)

Getting Intellisense in Visual Studio 2005..

I was just reading MSDN for something and came across keyboard shortcut page for Visual Studio 2005, its interesting one..

Generally I am used to give Ctrl + Space to get the intellisense window before I start typing.. But there are also other ways..

  • Ctrl + Space
  • Ctrl + J
  • Alt + Right Arrow

I was wondering why so many shortcuts for the same functionality? May be because of backward compatibility!!

Take care before using Google Documents and Spreadsheet service..

I did not read the Google Document's Terms and Condition before using it, thinking "Do no evil.." is what they really mean!!!

But, I just came to know about this..

"By submitting, posting or displaying Content on or through Google services which are intended to be available to the members of the public, you grant Google a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, adapt, modify, publish and distribute such content on Google services for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting Google services."

Does that mean, I am using Google Doc to save one document which has content of my PHD thesis which I have not yet submitted to university, Google can use that document and "reproduce" it to somebody else!! ???

I will surely think twice before storing any documents with google now! As of now, my Google document store is empty.. Next time when I get some spare time, I am going to read GMail's Terms and Condition!!

Who created the chaos!!???

I am reading a new book these days..(yet another book!!!)

Object Oriented Analysis and Design with Applications.. (a looong name and so is the book!!!)

Wanted to share good piece of joke..

A physician, a civil engineer, and a computer scientist were arguing about what was the oldest profession in the world. The physician remarked, “Well, in the Bible, it says that God created Eve from a rib taken out of
Adam. This clearly required surgery, and so I can rightly claim that mine is the oldest profession in the world.” The civil engineer interrupted, and said, “But even earlier in the book of Genesis, it states that God created the order of the heavens and the earth from out of the chaos. This was the first and certainly the most spectacular application of civil engineering. Therefore, fair doctor, you are wrong: mine is the oldest profession in the world.” The computer scientist leaned back in her chair, smiled, and then said confidently, “Ah, but who do you think created the chaos?” Winking

Another day reading "You can win".. Today also, wanted to share a story from the book..

A biology teacher was teaching his students how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. He told the students that in the next couple of hours, the butterfly would struggle to come out of the cocoon. But no one should help the butterfly. Then he left. The students were waiting and it happened. The butterfly struggled to get out of the cocoon, and one of the students took pity on it and decided to help the butterfly out of the cocoon against the advice of his teacher. He broke the cocoon to help the butterfly so it didn't have to struggle anymore. But shortly afterwards the butterfly died. When the teacher returned, he was told what happened. He explained to this student that by helping the butterfly, he had actually killed it because it is a law of nature that the struggle to come out of the cocoon actually helps develop and strengthen its wings. The boy had deprived the butterfly of its struggle and the butterfly died.

Apply this same principle to our lives. Nothing worthwhile in life comes without a struggle. As parents we tend to hurt the ones we love most because we don't allow them to struggle to gain strength.

I am reading "You can win" by Shiv Khera right now. I have just started reading the book but the book has very good small examples!! Wanted to share one of them... It is about Attitude and importance of attitude in life.. There are few people who always keep on looking for negative things. So, here it goes..

There was a hunter who bought a bird dog, the only one of its kind in the world. That could walk on water . He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw this miracle. At the same time, he was very pleased that he could show off his new acquisition to his friends. He invited a friend to go duck hunting. After some time, they shot a few ducks and the man ordered his dog to run and fetch the birds. All day-long, the dog ran on water and kept fetching the birds. The owner was expecting a comment or a compliment about his amazing dog, but never got one. As they were returning home, he asked his friend if he had noticed anything unusual about his dog. The friend replied, "Yes, in fact, I did notice something unusual. Your dog can't swim."
