I just read that GMail now will be able to show doc and docx file formats from GMail. This feature is also available now from Hotmail but I thought it would be interesting to see how a document is rendered by Google. So, I created a word document, sent it as attachment to both GMail and Hotmail and opened it in their respective web applications. Below are the result, see it for yourself.. and decide which one do you like.
Clearly there is difference and my document did not contain advanced features, they are normal formatting. One thing I was shocked about was Google Docs decreases image quiality while displaying the image and it changes fonts!
